Post-partum
visiting nurse
and lactation
consultant

I'm all about helping moms feel empowered.
I offer a balanced approach, tailored to each new mom, because lactation solutions are not
one-size-fits-all.

What I offer

In the early days and weeks after giving birth it’s normal to feel exhausted and overwhelmed. I provide guidance and support during this challenging time and empower parents to find joy and connection with their baby. As an RN I bring the expertise to assess you and your baby physically, as well as care for your emotional wellbeing. As an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC,) I have the knowledge to guide you through breastfeeding challenges from the first latches through the duration of your breastfeeding journey.

In this time of over exposure to information, I will be one trusted source of knowledge, and help you get in touch with your own instincts as a parent; setting achievable goals and developing a feeding plan that feels balanced for you and your family. I will visit with you and your baby in the comfort of your own home . We will discuss everything on your mind and I will answer all your questions; including but not limited to, care for the post birth body, newborn care, sleep, stress, and breastfeeding.

What sets me apart is,
I never rush a visit.
There is no time limit.

Alexis Harrington-Kihn

I’m an Oakland native with 16 years of experience as a Labor and Delivery nurse, and 9 years as a Lactation Consultant in the Bay Area. I have been passionate about supporting women through their reproductive health journey since I was a teenager and felt a calling to become a birth worker. After becoming a parent and falling in love with the breastfeeding experience, I wanted to help other moms find the joy, connection and empowerment I felt. A graduate of Columbia School of Nursing, I bring together expert nursing assessment skills with the art of gentle, compassionate care. In my free time, I enjoy yoga, dance, and keeping fit. I also love being in nature, hanging out with my girlfriends, and spending quality time with my husband, two boys, and my dog, Norm.

  • I’m so grateful to Alexis for supporting me on my breastfeeding journey. After giving birth to both of my daughters Alexis came to my home and helped me navigate early breastfeeding challenges. She then made herself available via text to answer my many questions and often checked in to offer additional support. Because of her support and guidance I was able to breastfeed my first daughter for two years, far surpassing my goal.

  • Alexis came into my home for lactation support sometime in the blur of the first three weeks postpartum and I immediately felt comfortable in her presence. She was clearly knowledgeable and experienced and had a genuine and straightforward way of communicating. I appreciated that so much in that sleepy and vulnerable Life moment. I highly recommend her to anyone wanting help with the confusing crash-course that is early breastfeeding.

  • In our family, we call Alexis our “lactation angel.” She not only gave incredibly clear and helpful nursing advice, she was also a wise, nurturing, non-judgmental presence that left me feeling stronger and more trusting of my mama instincts. She is also wonderfully holistic, offering referrals to support groups and other resources. And she’s been available and supportive by text/phone throughout my nursing journey. Can’t recommend her support highly enough!

  • Alexis, you came on day 5 just after my milk fully came in and were not only a savior on my breastfeeding journey & success but also the warmest, kindest energy, which was just the perfect balm in those early days of sleep deprivation and hormones. The LC’s in the hospital were kind and helpful but I truthfully felt rushed, and left postpartum with a whirlwind of conflicting guidance from having seen so many faces over the course of my stay — nurses changing shifts, pediatricians sharing their tips and having seen 2 LC’s there all before my milk was even fully in! Once I was “in it” and on my own at home I felt so overwhelmed! Having you arrive and just first catch up and listen to my birth story and chat was so loving. And before I knew it I fretted that you only had so much time and that I had squandered some of it gabbing! I asked you, “I’m realizing I should figure how long I have you for!” and you were so chill and told me “however long it takes!” Being able to move through the different positions and props in my own space with you at an un-rushed pace was really impactful for me and helped me actually process and retain the nuances of successful nursing. Having your time and support in my own nest during that vulnerable time made something that was daunting, feel beautiful and enjoyable. Now 8 weeks postpartum I look back on those first days and your home visit on that sunny November morning truly stands out as a warm highlight.

  • I am so grateful to Alexis for supporting me on my breastfeeding journey. As I struggled to establish breastfeeding in my first few weeks postpartum, Alexis was an empathic and non-judgmental figure who did not bat an eye when I confessed I wasn't sure breastfeeding was sustainable for me. During a vulnerable time when a new mama can often feel reduced to a pair of boobs, Alexis made me feel seen and cared for as a whole person, and gave me permission to ask myself how I wanted to feed my baby. With her support, I've been breastfeeding for nearly five months and have grown to love it. She successfully coached me through painful latches, pumping questions, and clogged ducts.
